Elmo and Bob

These pictures are actually from Monday when we were preparing - making sure we had all the necessities for our costumes. Ezekiel loved being in Elmo, but I was doubtful it would last long on Halloween and Gavin was super excited to be Bob the Builder.

On Wed after naps, we headed to our church and took part in a carnival the church puts on for the community. We (the kids and I) had volunteered to run a game booth for the first hour and both kids were very excited at the prospect of working in a game booth. Pretty sure neither of them had any idea what exactly that meant, I guess it just sounded fun. Our booth was a game that had 2 wooden tables with numbered squares where a ball could be thrown in. Each person got 2 balls, and everyone got candy. I knew Gavin would be helpful, but wasn't sure exactly how much he would be able to independently do. Turns out, he could have run it alone. In fact, one of the tables was basically his to run. I watched with pride and amazement as he handed 2 balls to one person after the other (almost all older than he), stood to the side as the person threw the balls, encouraged "good job!" and handed out candy before retrieving the balls for the next one in line. Even people with scary masks or costumes that would normally send him hiding behind my legs did not stop him. He would look at the said scary person, glance at me for a nod of assurance, then proceed with his job. My heart swelled.
Ezekiel lasted about 45 minutes in his costume. In the game booth, he helped hand out candy and tried to sneak a piece for himself every 3 minutes or so.
After our job, we enjoyed a few games ourselves, both kids jumped in bounce houses, walked through an ambulance, and Gavin got his face painted. With a butterfly. A glittery rainbow butterfly. He LOVED it. He told Jason when we got home last night that he never wanted to wash his face.

Though today was hard since both kids got much less than enough sleep....it was worth it. And the remnants of the butterfly lasted until bath time today...much to Gavin's pleasure.
