Some of our friends, the Fishers, have just submitted their application to adopt a boy from Rwanda. I'm super excited for them and can't wait to walk alongside them through this process as they obediently take care of the orphans(one way, anyways)!
This past Christmas I tried to buy gifts that would benefit others as well as the gift receiver. I bought a pair of Tom's shoes for Sarah because for every pair of Tom's that are bought, a pair is made for orphans in a different country. The country designated for December was Ethiopia and 37,000 pairs were made for orphans there. Thats cool! If you want a cute pair of shoes that are super comfortable, check out Tom's Shoes. Oh - and the coolest thing - Daniel and Bethany bought ME a pair so I have some too...YES!(that was for you, kristen)
Another website you need to check out if you drink coffee is www.saintscoffee.com
For EVERY pound of coffee you buy, you feed an orphan for a MONTH!! I think thats amazingly cool. We love Pura Vida coffee as well, but we are starting to buy from this company as well. I just got some in the mail and am anxious to try it.
Just wanted to mention those 2 organizations...I know there are tons more too.
Happy New Year!!
*Pictures and details about our overnight in SD to come - it was fun!
*1st shift back at UCI is tomorrow
*Quick story...I was playing a Spiderman memory game with Gavin this afternoon and he had gotten 5 matches and I had only one. There were 3 matches left on the board and it was his turn. He took his turn and didn't get one so it was my turn. I went and got the last 3 matches. I was thinking about it and realized he probably let me get those! Gavin has an amazing memory and is incredible at the memory game. In fact he usually beats me really bad when I am trying my best. Honestly. I asked him if he had not gotten a match on purpose and he said yes. I asked him why and he said,"Mom, I already had five matches and you only had one! If I would have gotten more you would have been sad. I wanted you to get some more too." This really touched me. More and more as he gets older I see him being considerate of other people...ahhhh... such a sweet boy.

Interesting you posted about Gavin being polite. I was showing pictures from Christmas around at work today and someone asked me which one of the 4 little ones in the photo was most polite. I said:....ummmmm, Gavin, I think, is consistently polite...and he smiles in EVERY photo!! :)
Nana
I have to say that J kicks my butt in memory. I was totally impressed by how much he remembered but I was more shocked to realize how much I couldn't.
