Here I sit at work, its 2:17am, and I contemplate how grateful I am for my health. My patients from last night are both gone. One went home and the other passed away. Makes you think about how mortal we are. How much we need to depend on something outside of ourselves. Thank you Jesus. What would I do without the hope of salvation?
I listen to the talk around me - of flippant comments about this person or that person; hopes of buying houses; desires to make more money; and yearnings for trustworthy relationships. The emptiness of these conversations strikes me. These people need you, Lord. Let me be someone who is real to them. Who has something different. Not just the girl that goes to church. Or went on a mission trip a long time ago. Or has a husband that used to be a "minister." I want to share Jesus with them. Teach me how.
Today I am thankful for:
1) Everlasting hope, and a knowledge that there is something so much bigger than me and I don't have to have it all together, because there is someone else holding together the strings...
2) Dan and Judy coming over, once again, to sit at our house while Ez slept so Jason could take Gavin to the Angels game tonight
3) Long naps today for both boys at the same time so I could get some cleaning done
4) Jason going to Costco to get the food for Nick and Becky's baby shower tomorrow
5) Not being late to work tonight even though I didn't leave the house until almost 6:30pm! I usually leave at 6pm.
6) A sweet email from Judy
7) Ez reaching for me when I got home this morning - or maybe he just wanted to eat, but thats ok, I still loved it
8) Gavin's excitement about the baseball game - he was running around the house yelling this afternoon
9) The coconut creme creamer I had in my coffee last night - it was SO good. I have to go to the store and find some!!
10) Have I mentioned my mom lately? Or my dad? Half the time I call my mom's phone, my dad answers :-) I love getting to say hi to him as I'm calling my mom to ask a random decorating/cooking/baby/mothering/sleep/discipline/potty training question. My mom is always there for me.
