a story
Your firstborn son has graduated from high school and you have saved frugally previous years so he could go to college. He excelled in school and was accepted into an Ivy League School. He is ecstatic and applies himself whole heartily. You have to scrimp to get by as you pay for extra bills here and there for him, but he works hard over the next 4 years. The date approaches for his college graduation and you are so proud. Your heart swells and feels like it might explode thinking about how hard your son has worked. You show up to the graduation early, with a large bouquet of flowers and your congratulations. You scan the groups of students for your son and see him - standing alone with a downcast shadow on his face. You approach him, concern on your face and in your voice. What could be so troubling on such an amazing day? He looks away as he explains that he will not graduate today. After a moment of silent shock, you ask how that can be? Your son still looks away as he explains he has a debt at the bookstore. A $5 debt at the bookstore and because of that, he cannot graduate. Again in shock - words seem to escape you. A $5 debt? Your words come piling out of your mouth, before you can stop them..."Son, I have worked so hard to pay your way here. You have worked so hard to excel in school - the last 8 years -a $5 debt is NOTHING to me. Its only $5 Son! Lets pay it and get on with this graduation!" I heard this story (a similar version) on 107.9 and have thought about it so much since I heard it. Thats God. He created me. He sacrificed his SON for me. There is NOTHING that can separate me from His love. NOTHING. Its like a $5 debt. Its Ludicrous to Him. NOTHING. I am NEVER out of God's reach. Praise God for that. How can I live my life in a way that does not bring GLORY to God?
